The Piedmont Forum

The Forum is a 90-minute presentation and discussion on issues addressing the “Intersection of Faith and Culture.”  They are usually scheduled for a Sunday evening, but the times vary.  Ask questions, offer feedback, bring a neighbor, and meet a friend! Refreshments and childcare are provided. The forum meets in the Chapel in the Christian Education Building (access is from either of the staircases on the Highland Way side of the church).  Past Forums have addressed such issues as: “Faith and Politics,” “Faith in the Workplace,” “Is The Da Vinci Code True?, “Christianity and Islam,” “Where is God When People Suffer?”

Piedmont Forum: "Facing Fear" (film screening and discussion with filmmakers)
Sunday, April 2nd - 5pm

Join us on Sunday, April 2nd from 5-6:30 pm in the CE Building Chapel for a free showing of the 2014 Academy Award nominated short film “Facing Fear.” A 13 year-old boy was thrown out of his home for being gay. While living on the streets of Hollywood, he was savagely beaten by a group of neo-Nazi skinheads. He survived and then escaped life on the streets. 25 years later, he found himself in a chance meeting with a former neo-Nazi skinhead who, remarkably, turned out to have been one of those who had attacked him.  The film retraces the haunting accounts of the attack, the startling revelation that brought these men together again, and their struggles with doubt, anger and fear on the way to healing and reconciliation.  We will be joined by the film’s director, Jason Cohen, and film editor, Tom Christopher, who will lead us in a discussion of the issues addressed in the film.  For more information, contact Rev. Don Ashburn at:, or 510-547-5700, ext. 105.
